Of all the dive sites surrounding St. Eustatius, GRAND CANYON is
the most exhilarating. This site consists of a series of volcanic
fissures that pour a never ending stream of sand to the depths below.
The seascape created here may be unmatched in the caribbean. Advanced
divers can explore the depths to 125 feet while the less experienced
may choose to stay atop the wall in 70-80 feet. Superb visibility
and a wide variety of large animals combined with the very dramatic
backdrop make this dive a heart stopper. Come visit our underwater
version of the Grand Canyon and you will not want to leave.
BARRACUDA, a mini wall rising from 75 feet to 50 feet is a quarter
of a mile long and is home to many predatory fish as the name suggests.
Millions of little critters inhabit this ledge so there are plenty
of lively surprises in every nook and cranny. E.T. the resident porcupine
fish is always around, as are nurse sharks and large lobsters. the
coral encrusted 18th century anchor makes a terrific background for
a picture of your buddy, but the real photographic opportunity is
on the ledge. A macro photographers heaven. Fishes, corals, and sponges
create a cornucopia of color ranging from vivid reds, oranges, and
yellows to brown, pink and blue.
CHARLIE BROWN, sunk
on July 25, 2003, she has attracted dozens of species of fish. Horse-eyed jacks, barracudas, tangs, sergeant
majors and numerous other tropical fish and invertebrates inhabit this new artificial reef.
Charlie Brown is
an AT& T cable repair ship, 330 feet long and 45 feet wide, lying in 100 feet of water. This wreck site is an
easy dive for beginners to the seasoned wreck diver. A must dive for everybody.
CHIEN TONG, she is
the newest wreck to go down in the Caribbean. She was put in 77 feet of water in Aug 2004. She is 170 feet long
Taiwanese fishing vessel that was obtained by the island in July 2004. Brought to Statia and cleaned in less
than two weeks. She has many areas that can be penetrated and has good structure for attracting new
fish and animal life. She is ideal for the beginners because of the shallow depths she is lying in.
